Foodies know that the best part of traveling is eating like a local. If you love comfort cooking, farm-to-table fare, and fresh seafood, then the Lowcountry is the summer vacation destination for you.
Deciding to eat your way around the Lowcountry is easy, but choosing where – and what – to eat can be tricky. That’s why we’re serving up our ultimate Lowcountry foodie bucket list.
Begin With Breakfast
Start your day off right with classic Southern breakfast dishes like biscuits or shrimp & grits. Like any self-respecting Southerners, we take our award-winning shrimp & grits seriously at The Cottage, topping a bed of stone-ground grits and local shrimp with toppings like brisket, poached eggs, and pimento cheese.
Dive Into Fresh Seafood
From the catch-of-the-day off the coast to fresh shellfish harvested from the May River, you’ll find no shortage of fresh seafood options to choose from. While the area is known for its shrimp and oysters, we recommend trying she-crab soup or a Lowcountry boil for a bite of truly local flavor.
Tuck Into Classic Southern Cooking
No Lowcountry vacation would be complete without ordering a classic Southern dish like fried chicken and waffles, pot pie, or fried green tomatoes. We bread and fry our famous Fried Green Tomatoes to golden, crispy perfection before topping them with a creamy cajun tomato sauce.
Don’t Forget Dessert!
The South is known for its sweet treats, and the Lowcountry is no exception. Be sure to try some classic southern desserts like pecan pie, peach cobbler, and banana pudding. From our traditional pecan pie to mini caramel turtle bundt cakes, everything from The Cottage’s bakery is made-from-scratch using the highest quality ingredients.
Whether it’s your first time visiting the Lowcountry or you’re a long-time local, there’s a table just waiting for you at The Cottage. Join us for breakfast Mon-Fri (9-11 am) and Sat (8-11 am), for lunch Mon-Sat (11 am-3 pm), or for Sunday brunch (8 am-2 pm). We’re excited to see you, seat you, and serve you some delicious Southern cooking!
